BEACH HOUSE J

QALAMOUN, NORTH LEBANON

Date: 2012
Client: Private
Area: 4000 m2
Status: Interrupted
Collaboration: Apractice Studio, Ramzi Mezher

The area where the site is located used to be a large seafront field of saltpans. Today the waterfront plot is squeezed between two large private beach resorts. We had the pleasure to collaborate with architect and friend Ramzi Mezher on this project. Together we based ourselves on the initial nature of the site to start our concept: it is a Mediterranean seafront landscape with the pattern of the saltpans. We created space at the center of the plot and pushed the dense planted arundo hedges to the edges. Outdoor chambers surrounded by dense vegetation of the arundo donax imitate the geometric pattern of the saltpans. In opposition to the open central space facing the house, we accentuated the perspective of the access to the sea: a narrow passage within the grasses leads to a small private sand beach. A small jetty ended in large steps that merged within the water.
